Last year, my family and I started a new tradition of choosing a word to represent the coming year. Have you heard about this? I can’t recall exactly how I came across this, possibly from a blog or maybe it was from an episode of And Just Like That. If you haven’t done this yet, I highly recommend it. It can seem daunting to pick just one word to lead you for the whole year. But it’s not set in stone, it’s simply a guideline.
The word I chose last year was Possibility. I feel like it really represented my past year. Every time I heard it spoken or saw it in print, it sort of spurred me on. It was a little reminder of how I wanted my year to go. It also forced me to keep an open mind.
Back in May 2022, my husband and I had made the decision to upgrade our century old home before we listed it for sale. It took us a whole year to finish the countless projects we had in mind.
But we did.
Once we were ready to list we had no idea if it would sell for the price we’d hoped.
But it did.
Then we had to find a new home in a new city, without traveling there. Just over a week after we’d sold our home, we made an offer on one. It was accepted and the rest, as they say, is history. Well, history currently in the making, I suppose.
This year’s word is Consistency. I was on the fence with this one and almost picked two words, the second one being Perspective. So far though, I am glad that I stuck with my first choice.
I am being more consistent with my exercise regimen, making sure to get my heart rate up at least 3 days a week. I am being more diligent with cleaning our bathrooms, as much as I loathe the task, specifically cleaning the toilet. I am making sure that I write at least once a week, though I think it should probably be double that amount. I’ve read that posting twice a week is a good aim, so as long as I’m producing enough content to do that, that’s good for now.
So what word would you pick for this year? I found my word list idea here.
