Welcome to 2025’s first installment of first Friday favourites. This will be another short post as the kids are still home for the holidays, but I hope get myself organized in the coming weeks so posts will be planned in advance!
Inspired by one of my old planners by Pipsticks & Workman, these are my current faves:
WATCHING:
Shows:
In the final week of December, Matt and I started watching Black Doves, a short thriller series, this time on Netflix. We were both drawn into the suspense and great casting of the show. Having never seen Keira Knightley in a tv show before, my curiosity was piqued. But I already enjoy her as an actress, so suspected she would be able to carry the show quite easily. I loved the platonic pairing of her and Ben Wishaw – who I once thoroughly detested in this movie, but was totally rooting for in this series – more so than her romantic pairing with Andrew Koji. But I did not mind seeing the latter actor in this show as the series he was known for is now over. Matt and I really got into Warrior a few years ago and I thoroughly recommend that if you are looking for some nightly entertainment.
At only six episodes long, it would take less than a week for you to get through, if you watched one episode a night. And there will be another season too, though I’m not sure when it will be released.
YouTube:
I have added quite a few subscriptions to my YouTube account, but lately I have been going back to a few channels I’ve mentioned previously. Now that it’s a new year, I find myself tuning in to Mel Robbins and The Diary of a CEO, simply because they have such inspiring and informative content.
Some of the most recent favourites from The Diary of a CEO include this one and this one, both of which talk about body language… how you can read other people’s body language and how you can present yourself in better ways too.
I loved this video of Mel Robbins and her daughter talking about her new book, The Let Them Theory, that they wrote together. Having a teenaged daughter who is currently experiencing some typical teenaged emotions, I have tried implementing some of the techniques she mentioned. I will likely be ordering the book as I’m sure I will be able to refer it more than once in the coming years.
GAMES:
Although we originally intended to have a quiet family New Year’s eve together, I ended up inviting my parents, who are a five minute drive away from us, over. And it was still a fairly subdued night when the Jenga blocks weren’t toppling over. We played two rounds and both times my mom was the toppler.
Blythe and Brighton both got a couple of new card games for Christmas that we have gotten into. We have played Uno No Mercy more than Taco Hat Cake Gift Pizza though. It helps when there are more people playing as well, so these are both great party games!
Tonight is another movie night for us, but Fridays could also be a great game night. Have a wonderful weekend wherever you are!
