My Messy Desk and Life – January 2025

The current state of my desk – rather messy – mimics what’s been happening in my life. It’s been one of those weeks. I’ve gotten stuff done and yet it also feels like I haven’t. Those daily drawings have become every other day drawings, but who’s keeping track? At least one kid has been home nearly everyday with us, either because they had days off school or else they were ill. One of our kitties – Cool Ranch – has been under the weather too.

Our Chinese New Year’s celebration last weekend was cut a bit short due to a scare on Matt’s side of the family. But by the first day of the new year, things had thankfully turned around. We are very grateful for the healthcare system here in Canada!

The black sesame cake I made for our family celebration turned out to be as delicious as I’d hoped! My icing skills were a little messy but in the end, it’s really about the taste.

I didn’t take a picture of the slice but from the photo above, it sort of looks like an inside out Oreo cake. The cake part of it though is so dreamy and comes to life from the black sesame paste. I’m glad I was able to find some at an Asian market close to us.

We’ll be getting together again this weekend where the new game of choice for the majority will likely be Catan. Brighton somehow discovered it after watching a random YouTube short. I have yet to learn how to play but may try tomorrow. How can I resist a game with the word “cat” in it?

Another new development this week is that I will be selling some of my merchandise at a local shop called The Cottage. It’s been quite some time since I’ve had any of my wares in a brick and mortar store – I think the last time was when Brighton was just a wee babe – so it took a bit of prep to get all the stock ready. I’m excited about starting this journey again in a new city

It’s time to make some new business cards though, as we’re no longer in Toronto.

However, this weekend is about rest and hunkering down as we’ll be getting a few days of snowfall. Have yourself a cozy one!
