First Friday Favourites – May 2024

Oh my, it’s already May and time for the second installment of First Friday Favourites! I had honestly almost forgotten about this and had another post planned for today, so this one may be a little brief.

Here are my current faves, again inspired by my old Pipsticks & Workman planner.

Watching:

Show:

We have been loving Netflix’s Dinner Time Live with David Chang

Matt is a bit of a foodie and always looking for ways to be inspired in cooking. I watch it for the guests and to see their interactions, not only with one another but with Chef David Chang. Favourite episode so far was probably the Breakfast Club one with Aziz Ansari and Cord Jefferson.

Movie:

We just started watching Dune: Part 2 so I can’t fully rave about it. But so far, so good. Matt had to catch me up on the first movie as it’s been a while since we watched that and I had never watched the original 1984 Dune. I may be robbing the cradle here, but I don’t mind watching Timothée Chalamet for a couple hours.

YouTube Channels:

Pick Up LimesDiscovered this channel recently and just find her content to be useful and fun to watch. Although I am not a plant-based eater, we are striving to eat less meat in our family, if only a little. It’s also not just food content but lifestyle as well.

She Holds Dearly – I really love interior designer Sarah Phillipps’ style and what she picks out for her home. She makes thoughtful, educational and engaging videos. I’m also quite jealous of the antique pieces she has scored off of Facebook Marketplace!

Christina MychasAnother Canadian YouTuber who produces some great content that I find relatable and helpful. I enjoy seeing her out and about in Toronto at places that I may have passed by or only knew of by name.

Reading:

Really, I haven’t been doing a lot of reading lately. But one book I picked up at the library that I would love to add my collection is Resourceful Living by Lisa Dawson. Since moving, I have been on a mission to be more savvy with adding things to our home and want to choose items that are not only going to last us a while but have history or character.

I also really enjoyed the part she wrote on page 92 of the “Dining” chapter where she says: “In our family, the benchmark is high and you have to be in it to win it. It’s all or nothing. If your fully set table doesn’t get at least a gasp of awe, then you must consider yourself a failure and try harder next time. Ruthless.”

I would love to set a beautiful table for each meal and get our kids to all sit down at the same time and actually be present, not distracted by a book, toy or screen. First world problems though.

Listening:

I must admit, I have enjoyed Taylor Swift’s new album The Tortured Poets Department. On the first listen, I didn’t think much of it, but it has grown on me and I really love the Fortnight single with Post Malone. Another favourite is Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?, especially the part where she yells that line.

That’s all for this month’s installment. If you’re curious about my last month’s favourites, they are here.

Have a lovely weekend and I’ll be back on Monday!
