Are Barrel Jeans a Hit or Miss?

We the Free Good Luck Mid-Rise Barrel Jeans

I am not a slave to fashion trends by any means but I stumbled upon these barrel (or balloon) jeans recently and went, hmm… At first, I thought, “those are some pretty weird looking pants”. But I have been loving wide leg jeans lately, so I did a deeper dive on the web to see if I could find something a little more affordable. Spending over a hundred dollars on jeans is just not something I’m used to doing.

So when I spied these ones on Walmart and Amazon for a fraction of the cost, I was pretty stoked. But after a closer look, I realized they were the same jeans as the ones on the Free People site. What?! They just cut off the model’s torso and Photoshopped the background, at least for the initial image. In all the other photos they don’t even bother doing that. They also offer the jeans in five of the other twelve available colours and all those images are “borrowed” as well.

What I’m wondering is, who is the actual manufacturer of these jeans and how can there be such a price discrepancy? I’m not that familiar with the Free People brand but from their story, it seems they are more of a boutique brand, affiliated with other higher end brands like Anthropologie, which are all part of URBN. Does that mean they can charge a higher price for essentially the same thing simply by slapping on their logo to the back of the jeans?

When you click on the Boiiwant brand from Walmart, it takes you to a whole slew of items also made by them. 408 pages of things and not just clothes! Crazy! While the price of the jeans is very attractive, I can not get behind a product that is blatantly using the same images from another site. Boy, do I not want them!

I did find these ones from Zara, which are in between the price of the others. So far, I haven’t come across any other similar images of these on alternative sites. We’ll see how much I really want them.

What do you think of this style? Yay or nay?
