This past week I started a daily drawing challenge after this video was suggested to me on YouTube. As one of my goals this year is to get back into freelance illustration, making a drawing everyday can only help me along this path. Looking through my sketchbook from last year, I did not draw nearly enough.
Since of my Words of the Year is “thrive”, I decided to make one of the first few drawings of this. To thrive, is to grow or develop well or vigorously and also, to prosper and flourish. If I want to thrive as an illustrator and artist, I know I need to create good habits. And like any habit, the more I do it, the easier it will become part of my daily routine. Putting this up on my wall will also help remind me of my goals on a daily basis.
The colour I most associate with thrive is green. And when I think of green, it makes me think of lush plant life and vegetation, like succulents. So, I decided to embellish the word with some of those elements. I tried to create an ombré effect with the greens. My main medium was the pencil crayons I got for Christmas from Blythe. Previously, I was borrowing some of hers. So when she asked me what she could get me for Christmas this year, I chose a set of my own.
So far, I’ve done about six drawings, but the rest are not coloured and sort of look unfinished. I’m debating whether or not to colour them by hand or digitally but I’m not going to stress about that part. My main mission is to keep up with the daily drawing so by the end of the year, I will have accrued over 300 new images!
Back next week with some more drawings to share. Have a great weekend!
