Hello! Thank goodness it’s Friday and time for another First Friday Favourites!

Here are my current faves for June, again inspired by my previous Pipsticks & Workman planner.

WATCHING:

Show:

Happily, I discovered that there was a new season (Seven!) of Outlander on Netflix and finished all eight episodes within a week. That was only Part 1 though… we’ll have to wait until November for Part 2.

If you are not familiar with this show, it is based off a best-selling book series written by Diana Gabaldon. She apparently wrote the first “novel for practice” to see if she could in fact write one and from there, it took off. Although I have not read any of the books, my mother-in-law recommended the show to us and we’ve been hooked since it first came out nearly ten years ago.

Part historical fiction, part sci-fi, part romance, it makes for a thrilling watch at night. Eventually, I may start reading the series but now that I’ve put faces to each character it may ruin either the show or the books.

We then moved onto watching Season 3 of Bridgerton, also on Netflix. There were only four episodes so it didn’t take us long to get through them. I won’t spoil how they left off, but am glad that it ended the way it did. And I won’t have to wait as long to see what happens next. New episodes come out on June 13.

YouTube Channels:

Rajiv SurendraI first saw one of Rajiv’s videos last Fall if my memory serves me correctly. It was this one and I was transported into his magical space and world after watching it. And I also thought, why does he seem so familiar?

So, naturally I googled him and discovered why. He played Kevin Gnapoor, one of the Mathletes in the original Mean Girls! But he has done many things since then, including writing a memoir; I like to think of him as a modern day Renaissance man. I also love that he is a fellow Canadian, though he now calls New York his home. My favourite videos of his are probably the ones on antiquing, as that is a hobby that I’ve gotten into and also any that feature a glimpse into his apartment and lifestyle.

READING:

As often as I’ve gone to our local public library, Andy Warhol’s quote above pretty much sums up my life lately. This photo is from one of the many “picture” books I’ve checked out in the past few months. I love to look at inspiring interiors to get ideas for our own home.

Here are a few more peeks at and into this book by Emily Henson.

LISTENING:

Hozier’s Too Sweet has been on repeat on my Spotify account this past month. The way it starts, his overall delivery and the quality of his voice is just really good!

My favourite lines from the song are “Don’t you just wanna wake up, dark as a lake? Smelling like a bonfire, lost in a haze?”

FOOD:

Our family loves pizza! While it’s not the healthiest option for lunch and dinner, it’s comfort food for us and many families. Ordering a pizza or picking up a frozen variety is easy. Making a good pizza is not the easiest thing though.

On our, or Matt’s (to be fair), wishlist since our move, was a pizza oven. He had been pining after this one for the past year… but we ended up getting a little more budget friendly option recently and have been enjoying homemade pizza in various styles. His and the girls’ favourite is Neapolitan, while I love a delicious pan pizza (pictured at top of post) style similar to The Hut’s! We are still trying to convince Brighton that homemade is better than frozen, but his current all-time favourite is this one by Dr. Oetker.

Matt also wanted to try making Bibimbap last month since Whitney has developed a love of Korean culture. At first, I wasn’t into the idea of Korean food, having only ever tried the cuisine once, years ago and not really enjoying it. But after Matt made his version of this dish, I’ve found a new delicious Asian bowl. The trick was marinating the meat to tenderize it and then stir-frying it for a bare minimum so as not to overcook it.

There was also a lot of prep involved, with the veggies and various toppings. But it was worth it! This essential sauce, similar to Sriracha, was a key part of the tastiness.

May you enjoy some tasty eats this weekend!
