Last week, I found out that I got that job that I had interviewed for, making it my first job working out of the house post kids. It was also possibly the easiest interview I ever had, considering it was over the phone and I didn’t have to submit a resumé.
Personally, there’s nothing more draining than having to put together a resumé touting all your positives and past work experience… except maybe compiling everything you need for a passport application.
But more on that later this week.
So I am very grateful that I didn’t have to go through all that hassle. I am also very grateful for this new opportunity to work with Shannon Weber and her team. It has officially been a year since we moved to Saskatoon and I had hoped to secure a job by this time. While it is only part-time at the moment, it allows me the time and freedom for my other projects and responsibilities (ie. art, blogging and kids).
You could also say that this job was something that I was destined to do. Ever since I was a girl, I enjoyed rearranging furniture and creating vignettes in my room and sometimes around my parents’ home, much to their dismay. Matt and our kids have learned over years of living with me that I like to do the same in our home about every 3-4 months on average.
Of course, our home does not ever look as minimal as a staged home but who really lives like that? It’s all about creating the vibe and atmosphere for when potential buyers view the home.
Yesterday, was my first official day on the job, along with another new hire and we got to stage this very modern, but beautiful home that is almost finished. One of the handymen was hanging the bathroom mirrors as we were staging.
We were allowed to take photos for our future reference when staging. The front sliding door opens into the living and dining space, with the living room on the right. A grand ceiling height of about 20 feet makes the home feel more spacious. There are three bedrooms, two on the main floor and one larger master bedroom upstairs.
The one main difference with the house is that there is no basement. It is a slab floor house, so may not appeal to everyone. Flooring throughout the main level is all concrete, I think, so adding furnishings immediately warmed the interior up. It is also balanced out with wood cabinetry in the kitchen and the use of various live edge pieces throughout. And of course, the sun glowing through the expansive windows helps.
If you are familiar with your Canadian geography you may recognize the shapes of these nesting coffee table. They are the three Prairie provinces and are aptly named Prairie Tables by Gus Modern. It looks like they are no longer available on their site but the gorgeous chair in one of the photos above is.
Another great aspect of this job is that I get to see a wide variety of houses both inside and out and also explore areas of Saskatoon that are new to me. It is really helpful that Saskatoon is not that big so you can get across the city in about 15-20 minutes by car, when it is not rush hour. If it is rush hour, then maybe add 10-15 minutes.
I am still working on putting together my Summer Bucket List, but I’m happy to say that I can check off “getting a job”.
