More often than not, it’s the little things that can make a big difference… in life or around the home. A chance meeting, a small decision can change things just like that.
A few weeks ago, Matt asked me to go with him to a local kitchen store. Originally I had planned on staying home that day to write, but at the last minute I decided to go. So we went, he picked up a new kitchen gadget, then we perused a nearby thrift shop since it was just across the street.
Before heading home, we made one more stop here, so Matt could get some more fabric for his chairs. I stayed in the car because it was raining and wasn’t in the mood to walk around the store. While inside, he recognized a local home stager whom he had started following on Instagram before we moved to Saskatoon. He said a brief hello, paid for his stuff and then we made our way back home. Just a few days later, he ended up selling one of his chairs to that same home stager, neither one knowing they’d already met in person.
Then Matt told me that she was hiring, so I contacted her about the position. We had an interview over the phone and then earlier this week, I had the chance to stage a vacant home with her and a small crew. She is still in the hiring process, so I won’t know until next week if I get the position, but just getting the chance to work with a professional home stager was insightful and exciting! Having staged our Toronto home almost entirely on my own over the course of a year was so different than staging a house in under three hours!
One of the things I got to style was the coffee table. After a bit of tweaking, the final touch was the cutest little bird figurine, which I found out was from this store downtown. The precious mice pictured above, are also from Anthology.
Yesterday, to celebrate our 17th wedding anniversary, Matt and I went to check out the store. Apparently the gift to give after this many years together, is furniture. However, the price tag on most of the furniture there was too steep for our current budget. Plus, if I want any new furniture, Matt can just try to make it.
I did end up buying these beautiful and unique champagne flutes. Much better than a typical champagne glass, which I find a tad too fragile and small. At first glance, they look like a highball glass, but these are a bit skinnier and probably hold less volume. Matt and I polished off the bottle of Prosecco last night so they can hold about 200 ml each.
We are also now down to three kittens in our home. Spicy Nacho was adopted over the weekend and of course there were tears as soon as he was out the front door. When I first found out that someone wanted to meet him, I cried. He was one of my favourites out of the “Doritos” boys – they are all so sweet! – but he has found his forever home and that was the goal all along.
This guy is my favourite…
He may be little, but he has stolen my heart!
