In the seven months that we’ve been living in our new home, we’ve had our share of visitors. Some welcome… and some not.
Most recently, we discovered that someone had come into our backyard, gate left ajar. It is hard to miss footprints in the snow. Matt, being a smoker, will occasionally walk around our yard, but he had definitely not gone all the way to the back gate to have a puff. And he also would not have left it open. Our shed door was open as well, but nothing had been taken.
I wondered if the person had been looking for shelter of some kind. Recent temperatures in Saskatoon had been arctic! But to enter someone’s backyard in search of warmth is not typical… or so I thought. Apparently this happens every night in some neighbourhoods around the city. It made me feel icky to know that a stranger had been in our yard, poking around.
We have since added some padlocks to both the back and front gates of our property.
You’d think that a smaller city would be safer, but Saskatoon is actually the fourth most dangerous in Canada. Toronto, our former digs, is the safest in our country.
Who says Saskatoon isn’t exciting? Just check out some of the wildlife we’ve seen out our front door and window.
